This is a planner I use for Genius Hour shark tank, which is personalised, individual inquiry. Something similar could be used.

Activity 12 - Pitching the Idea (this may take several sessions):
A Shark Tank pitch is a wonderful way to seek peer feedback on each team's solution to the problem. The pitch should be a maximum of 2-3 minutes, and cover the idea in its entirety. This teaches students important summarising skills, the ability to identify important pieces of information, and to persuade an audience that their idea has merit. I always show them a video or two of the real Shark Tank program! You may like to bring in a member of the leadership team, school librarian and/or other teachers etc, to form an actual panel if you like. But peer feedback is a very important part of this process. The teams should focus on speaking confidently about the following: - What is their idea and how does it connect to the issue? - How are they going to do it? - Who are the stakeholders they will need to connect with? - How will they know if they have been successful? |
Activity 13 - Refinement (the length of this depends on how you would like it to be run)
The students have now had a brief opportunity for feedback on their idea, and if it is something that can be achieved. Time to refine and follow through on their plan is to be given now. Students should be given a deadline, otherwise they will not commit to their plan and will drag out the process. If action is being taken, this is when it should happen. Our example: An example of student initiated action was to write a letter to the council to install more fishing line bins where it was evident that they were needed. |
Activity 14 - Choosing an Appropriate Final Presentation Method (this may take several sessions):
Depending on how you are running the project, either have the students determine a way to present their idea and poster/advertisement as a class, or individually within their teams. Some possible ideas: - Video (filmed speech) - Speech - iMovie - Stop Motion Animation - PowerPoint (I usually prefer students to branch away from this) - Presi - Play/act/performance - Artwork Within this presentation, students need to explain how successful they were at achieving their goals within their Shark Tank pitch, and any action that arose from their solution to the problem. |
Reflection Questions

tested the solution, what are the success indicators (how do you know it is
successful)? Write, draw, link or find a way to share in this space.
