Student beach artwork expressing their concerns about local issues.
Activity 8 (This will likely last several sessions): At this stage, the students may be refining their knowledge and are getting ready to start thinking about their dream solutions. They are to start creating 'wish brainstorms' about the changes they would like to see in the world. Seeking how other stakeholders have addressed issues and challenges are a way for the students to gain insight and inspiration about how they can make a difference to their community, and the issues that they see within it. Our Example: As part of the exploring opportunities phase of Dream, the students explored community initiatives within their local environment to seek solutions to their wishes. They explored the concepts of: - Mandurah sea bins, - Fishing line bins, - and Fight the Bite Repellant Stations (unrelated but shows community initiatives). |
Seeking Examples
To further engage the students with stakeholder action, and to broaden their understanding to further contexts, have them find (or provide) their issue elsewhere in the world.
- What have the stakeholders in this part of the world done?
- What is similar about the issue in this part of the world?
- What is different about the issue in this part of the world?
- Do any of their actions help you with yours?
Our example: There are other estuaries around the world where they are dolphins including in QLD and also in Florida in US. QLD dolphins in the Fitzroy River (https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0056729), although this is not a positive story.

Reflection Questions
- What is the problem that you want to solve, restate it here?
- Write down ALL your ideas (we call this a Brainstorm) here. You might want a diagram or picture here
- Where has this issue been solved previously, describe these situations and consider if they were successful. You might want a diagram or picture here.
- Imagine the future and draw a diagram of what you would like to see happen in 20 years.
